Laura Biagiotti RTW Spring 2024

You have to hand it to Lavinia Biagiotti. A few days before the international, major event Ryder Cup kicks off at her Marco Simone Golf & Country Club outside of Rome, and after a tumble, which forced her to take her bow with her leg in a cast, she staged an uplifting and cheerful spring show at the Piccolo Teatro in Milan.

This attitude was reflected by Pat Cleveland, a longtime friend of the house, who walked to the tune of Stephanie Mills performing “Never knew love like this before” and twirled her sparkling silver dress in her signature stride.

Biagiotti’s practical ways were reflected in her collection, clothes that can serve a woman from day to evening — “without having to rush home to change,” she said, ever siding with her peers. That said, there was a dose of fantasy, too, as a suit and a miniskirt — and another dress worn by Cleveland — reproduced frescoes from the Marco Simone castle where Biagiotti lives, with mythical figures, sirens and winged horses. “We should never forget to add a playful element,” she said.

Biagiotti reimagined the brand’s signature knits and crochet dresses with light and loose shapes, “as if they would fly away,” she said. Ditto for a feminine linen duster coat and an openwork summery dress — all in white, another staple for Biagiotti. The designer added sparkles to many of the looks, and even a gold pantsuit to light up the night.
