Sienna Miller Puts Her Retro Stamp on the Three Piece Suit

Boho waistcoats were a much-loved staple for the noughties Glastonbury crowd. Years later, Worthy Farm veteran Sienna Miller has found a more formal answer to her festival essential. The actor was photographed in London wearing a three-piece suit—comprising a boxy jacket, waistcoat and flared trousers—by Bella Freud, a designer who takes inspiration from the free-spirited ’70s, so is a natural fit for Miller.

The silhouette wasn’t dissimilar to the sort Françoise Hardy and her ilk championed throughout the era. Sienna wore the single-breasted jacket – which, according to the product description, is inspired by the “rakish elegance of the Mayfair Spiv” – with Freud’s buttoned Chrissie waistcoat (“Mayfair swagger meets Chrissie Hynde”). The matching navy trousers, made from British Cavalry twill wool, and Sienna’s heeled Dear Frances ankle boots, only added to the nostalgic appeal.

Sienna continued the British theme with her chosen accessories. The actor arrived at London’s High Court (where she settled a claim against News Group Newspapers), with a Gucci Diana bag on her arm. Gucci’s creative director Alessandro Michele paid tribute to the late Princess Diana—who was a staunch fan of its bamboo handle tote—and rereleased an updated version of the bag earlier this year.

Sienna previously flew the flag for the Italian brand at the Mothers2Mothers Gala she attended on 1 December: she wore a dusty-pink suit adorned with feather trims, a tulle Gucci bra, strappy sandals and a box clutch.

Be it boho or business-meets-pleasure, Sienna can do both.
